You've created an amazing piece of content, but you have a teensy-weensy problem; it's not being seen. You've got a great headline. You've remembered your blog post formulas and you have all the elements in place… but you're still not sure how you can get the click without coming across as insane, desperate, or crazy.
What if there were 3 ways you could get more clicks without being sleazy? Let me share with you the techniques that will help you get more clicks on your content.
How to Get the Click: Story Transformation
My client Julie struggled with her email marketing. She couldn't get the people who opened her email to click the links. Julie found this incredibly frustrating and was ready to give up on email marketing when she booked a call. Julie explained how her emails were always opened, but the links? They were ignored. Julie shared her screen and I could see the content of her emails. The email content was as dull as dishwater and didn't offer a transformative story. Ouch.
So, as gently as possible I shared with Julie how she could create email content that engaged her readers and encourage the click. This method? Story. Humans are hardwired to remember stories it's how we shared our history through the ages. To entice readers to click through to your content tell them the story of how the situation came about and what's next? Well, you have to click the link to find out! These can be your stories or those of other people (in this example I'm sharing Julie's story with you), with the goal of helping your readers to see themselves in the same situation.
Did you help a client turn her chaotic household into a calm oasis with better organisational skills? Her story on your blog will help you gain more subscribers. Her story in your emails will get them opened and clicked. Her story on your sales page will get more clicks on the buy buttons. You probably have hundreds of stories you can share.
Julie loved how she could use the transformative story in her email content, and in the very next email, she added one. She was confident that it would work because she'd seen the NITRO formula in action, and when she checked her stats she was delighted to see 55% of the people who opened the email also clicked the link!
That’s the power of stories, and you can use them everywhere: in your blog posts, in your emails, on your sales pages, and even in videos and on social media.
How to Get the Click: Be Genuinely Helpful
Ready to build a reputation as the go-to person in your niche? All it takes is to help people and by help people, we don't mean give everything away for free! Think for a moment about all the ways you can help people:
- Answer questions on social media,
- Speak at groups of your audience,
- Write blog posts that address the most common issues your readers face.
- Be interviewed on podcasts that share your target audience
- Regular live streams on your Facebook page.
- Share your videos on LinkedIn
When you volunteer your time and knowledge, you’ll attract a wide audience of potential customers who may need your services in the future. Who will they turn to? That very helpful person who went out of her way to offer assistance in the past!
That one person that's constantly tagged in Facebook groups?
This is the person that's spent 30 minutes each week helping people. Now I'm not saying you have to give away all your time, but if you really want to show off your expertise, you can’t do better than helping others. Not only will you make an impression with the person you help. But chances are good she’ll share with her friends as well, further expanding your audience.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that there is no place in your content for a strong reaction. “Click here to buy” and “Learn more right now” are still useful (and even necessary) on sales and opt-in pages. The key is to know when to share a transformative story and when to offer a helping hand.
