We've all been there, staring at a blank screen, fingers hovering over the keyboard, and the words just won't come. The dreaded feeling of being stuck can be overwhelming, and the question arises: “What do I do When I Struggle to Create Content?” It's a common question, and luckily, there are many different solutions.
In this post, I'll share some engaging and fun ways to get your creativity flowing again.
Dive into a Good Book 📖
When the words refuse to flow, why not immerse yourself in someone else's? Whether it's fiction or a magazine, reading helps spark new ideas and provide that much-needed mental break. I find Misery-Lit will drag you down. However, a good thriller will have you spellbound. Don't forget sometimes something fun and frothy is in order. I particularly like YA books when I'm struggling to create. I recently read Sarah J Maas Throne of Glass series and it was incredible. Inspirational world-building and beautiful words. If you have a spare year do read all the books in the series.
Embrace the Joy of Walking 🚶♂️
A stroll, even around the local park, can do wonders for your creativity. You don't have to wander barefoot in the forest; a simple walk with your pet might just unlock that idea you've been searching for. And if it doesn't unlock an idea, that's perfectly okay. Walking is great for your health and your brain will thank you for it!
Tune into Your Favorite Tunes or Podcast 🎶
Music and podcasts are more than entertainment. They can be the muse you need. So next time you think, “What do I do When I Struggle to Create Content?” turn on some tunes or a podcast and let the inspiration find you. I don't recommend listening to a business podcast, as it makes you feel like you're working. My current go-to is Impact Winter on Audible. I've never heard anything like it! It's amazing and it's turned me into a podcast fan.
Get Creative in the Kitchen 🧁
Cooking is an art, and like writing, it requires creativity. Experimenting with recipes or decorating a cake can help you break through that creative block. Plus, you get to enjoy eating your creations! If baking cakes is not your thing, and its not mine… Go and browse the recipes on Amazon. Did you know there are Star Wars recipe books? No? me neither! You can make Wookie cookies… Can you imagine serving up Dagobah Swamp Casserole? Or Yoda's Root Loaf? These recipes exist to inspire our creativity and show our families that if we want to binge-watch 3 seasons of The Mandalorian in one day they need to let us…
Rediscover Your Hobbies 🎨
Hobbies are often where our passions lie. Spending time on something you love, whether it's crafting or building, can rekindle your creative spirit. Think back to when you were younger what did you enjoy doing? If you can't think of anything, buy an adult colouring book and a packet of colouring pencils. Not adult as in smut, adult as in a colouring book for grown-ups. Colouring is really therapeutic and soothing. 20 minutes colouring a day lowers stress, your heart rate and anxiety.
Practice Mindfulness 🧘♀️
Mindfulness is a great way to clear your mind. If the creative struggle is real, take some time to breathe, stretch, and reconnect with yourself.
Connect with Loved Ones 👯♂️
Sometimes, all it takes to reignite creativity is a good conversation with friends or family. Connection fuels creativity, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Struggling to create content is something that even the most seasoned writers experience. But the next time you find yourself asking, “What do I do When I Struggle to Create Content?” remember these tips. They are not just simple and enjoyable; they could be the spark you need to get back on the creative path.
If all of these fail, take a shower. For some reason, the best ideas happen in the shower. Remember to get a waterproof pen and paper!
Try them out and see what works best for you.
Happy creating
